Module 7: My Journey Through Instructional Design

Image
Hello everyone! I'm excited to share this post detailing my personal approach and vision for learning experience design. The power of learning theory isn't just academic. It's a practical toolkit that transforms educational materials from mundane to engaging. This blog post will outline how I have applied these theories in various modules throughout the course, demonstrating the versatility and impact of thoughtful instructional design. Behaviorism and Gamification In the first module, we dove into the world of behaviorism and gamification. By incorporating behaviorist principles, which focus on observable behaviors changed by stimuli, I designed a gamified learning experience via Google Forms that motivates learners through rewards. For example, each correct answer led to a visual cue that celebrated the learner's success, reinforcing their engagement and participation. This approach proved effective in not only maintaining attention but also in enhancing retention,

Experience with Learning Theories

Hi everyone, I'm Ryan. Great to meet you!  With a background as a project manager in an education technology agency, I have been immersed in the world of multimedia resource creation and instructional design theories in corporate and management training. However, I do recognize that there is a vast landscape of learning theories and instructional frameworks that I have yet to fully explore and integrate into my work. In my role, I have often incorporated elements of the ADDIE model and gamification principles into my designs, aiming to create engaging and effective learning experiences for our clients. Recently, I have been involved in a project targeted at community college students who are undecided about their majors.  This project seeks to reinvent the traditional college major aptitude test by offering immersive simulation-based scenarios that provide students with hands-on exposure to various fields, through the use of various technologies, helping them gain insight and mak

Personal Definition of Learning Design

Hello, fellow learners and explorers of the digital realm! In this article, I will aim to dive into the world of learning design and unravel my perspective in this emerging, innovative, and inspired field. I’m excited to share my take on this topic as we explore what learning design is, the role of technology in the field, successful approaches to creating easy-to-understand teachings, and how the readings in our module align with my approach.  What is Learning Design? As a high-level overview, learning design refers to deliberate choices about what, when, where and how subject matter is taught to cohorts, teams, and individuals. Learning design is like creating a learning roadmap that doesn’t just point the way, but makes the journey exciting and meaningful for the user. It’s about intentionally shaping the learning experience to ensure that learners are not just passive recipients of the subject matter, but active participants discovering knowledge in an engaging, memorable, and effe
